Why is the app consuming my traffic?
The VPN itself does not generate or consume additional internet traffic. What it does is redirect all of your device’s network data through our secure servers. This means that any traffic you see attributed to the VPN app is simply your regular internet usage being routed through an encrypted tunnel.
Why it may appear that the VPN uses a lot of data
- All traffic passes through the VPN. When the VPN is active, every app on your device sends and receives data through it. This includes web browsing, streaming, social media, system updates, and background app activity.
- Your actual data usage stays the same. The VPN does not download or upload anything on its own. The data shown under the VPN app in your device settings is the total of all your normal internet activity.
- Minor encryption overhead. VPN encryption adds a very small amount of extra data (typically 5-10%) to each packet, but this is negligible for most users.
Tips to manage data usage
- Check which apps are using the most data in your device settings.
- Disable background data for apps you do not use frequently.
- Connect to Wi-Fi whenever possible to avoid mobile data charges.
